Protecting the Human Resource

Every year hundreds of workers suffer injuries while carrying out hazardous operations. Accidents at the workplace not only lead to the unfortunate loss of manpower but also result in high compensation costs. Harmful particles could hit the face, eyes or head. Radiation, especially UV radiation, immense heat are some of the dangers faced by the workforce in industries like mining, engineering, welding operations, laboratories regularly. Therefore, you must develop a comprehensive protection policy for your workforce and diligently implement it.

Besides having a charter of rules in place, it is mandatory on part of employers to provide their employees with adequate protective equipment. Industry standards require that each employee working in high- risk zone must be equipped with a specifically designed device to protect eyes, ear, head, skin, face and body in general. This is known as personal protective equipment (PPE).

But before deciding to buy personal protection equipment you must assess the risks that are inherent in your industry which cannot be removed but only managed - like chemical splash, being hit by a metal projectile, vapour inhalation, radiation, dust, extreme temperatures, contact with contaminated residues, skin abrasions. Evaluation of possible hazards must be done to provide the workers with appropriate protective equipment.

Gears like goggles, gloves, earplugs, safety helmets, bodysuits and harnesses are required for protecting the health of employees and also safeguarding them in situations like fall, being hit by sharp objects and chemical reactions or high decibel of noise.

Many companies provide a complete Personal Protection product line that entails protection gear for Head, Eyes, Ears, Face, besides providing devices to prevent fall and respiration problems.

To protect the face in general and eyes, in particular, you can use face shields, safety goggles. For different industrial needs, different types of eye protection goggles can be used by the workers in construction, mining, chemical and engineering to safeguard their eyes. Full Face protection shields can also be used to achieve protection from accidental splashes or metal particles. These shields help protect both face and eyes. Foam earplugs cut the noise, and are comfortable even if worn for long hours. These protect ears from the damage caused by high decibel levels present especially in the construction industry. There are a variety of ear protection types of equipment available with us, for example, Helmet with earmuffs, Hear guard, and Safe fit are known-allergic, comfortable and can be used in rugged environments.

The risk of injury and loss of a bodily function can be greatly reduced by using these protective gears. Most of the protection equipment can be customized to fit into unique industry needs and prevent damages. However, manpower must be trained to use, maintain and store the equipment to ensure the longevity of the equipment. Any compromise on the procedure on the maintenance side can lead to disastrous results.

It is a known fact that by investing in the primary asset of your organization, i.e. the human resource you’ll have a workforce which is confident of its well being and thereby it will result in overall gains of the organization.
